Add the andPOP Facebook Application(andPOP) - Elena left the Canadian Idol competition with a knockout version of "Mary Jane" and these words, "Canada, treat them (the idols) well because they deserve it whole-heartedly." Elena Juatco was one of three talented BC finalists to receive the lowest number of votes. It's a numbers game and as Zack pointed out, "Eventually everyone goes home, even the winner."
For the first time in any Idol competition around the world, the contestants played instruments on Thursday's hour-long results show. The group performance of Lightfoot's "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" was incredibly entertaining and enjoyable, showcasing the raw talent of the competitors as well as the beauty of Gordon Lightfoot's song. Lightfoot was present to support the Idols and commented, "It's been a learning experience. I'm deeply honoured that they'd choose all my material and make a show of it."
Season one's third place finalist Billy Klippert made a surprise appearance to sing "Again," the second single from his self-titled album. He rocked on with his band and smiled appreciatively as the audience erupted in cheers. John Dore was around for comic relief, reading the judges' minds and acting as the perfect foil for Ben and the seriousness of the show. Debra Byrd, the Idol vocal coach was also recognized. The Idols all had kind words to say about her. They seemed to have great respect for her and faith in her abilities, which is understandable since this is the fifth Idol franchise for Byrd.
There were many distractions, yet the intention of the night was still clear as Ben began reading the results for the week. Jacob, Elena, and Shane were this week's bottom three. Then Ben announced the fifth competitor to leave Canadian Idol was Elena. Even though the idols signed on knowing how the competition works, loss and disappointment permeated the atmosphere.
When asked for their final words to Elena, Sass said, "You have just blossomed. We're going to miss you a lot but we know that you have great things coming for you in the future." Zack agreed, saying, "It was an honour to have you here. Thank you for gracing us with your performances."
Elena sang one final time, and said, "I want to thank everyone, my friends and family. This is more than I could ever ask for," and to the Idols, "Thank you for inspiring me with your passion for music, and humility."
